Original blurb

A popup workshop for older people who don’t have a lot of money

This will be an online shopping workshop with an emphasis on non-digital retail skills — like how to assess your choices, how to recognise common marketing tricks, how to avoid scams, how financial transactions actually work.

We will also look at digital products, such as internet service deals, mobile data plans, software, new and refurbished equipment, payment systems such as PayPal.

  • Exhibit A: a new Windows laptop bought online by a learner for £60 (one-third the normal price).
  • Exhibit B: a new Chromebook laptop bought online by a learner for £150 (half the normal price).
  • Exhibit C: a second-hand desktop computer obtained by a learner – free, with fresh installation of Windows 10 Pro and Microsoft Office (both actually required) for less than £50 (a small fraction of the normal price).
